The Government of India seems to ban Chinese smartphones under 12000 rupees from selling in the Indian market. Chinese smartphone manufacturing companies like Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi sell their devices at budget-friendly prices with interesting features that attract people. But India is planning to give an economic shock to China by banning smartphones under ₹12000. Check out the details.
India Seems to Ban Chinese Smartphones under 12000
According to the American Media Sources, India will ban Chinese smartphones under 12000 rupees to bring down the Chinese economy. It means, that the smartphones under ₹12000 manufactured by Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi will not be sold in the Indian market. According to Techvaio, it would be a revolutionary step if the Indian Government will take such a step.

Although, such a step isn’t taken yet. It’s based on reports only. However, Bloomberg reports first came out on Monday, “India seems to ban Chinese smartphones under 12000 rupees to give a boost on the Indian smartphone manufacturing companies like LAVA, Micromax, and others. The move will aim to push Chinese giants like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo out of the lower segment of the second-largest mobile market in the World.”
The Direct impact falls upon the consumers, who are using those budget-friendly phones for a long time. But it’s not mandatory that “Made in China” written phones will create any issue. Smartphones under ₹12000 contribute a third of India’s sales in the quarter of June 2022. And, the Chinese companies are acquiring up to 80% of those sales, according to market tracker Counterpoint.
If you want to know how much it will affect the Chinese economy, I would like to say, India has recently banned PUBG again along with other 50 Apps that cost 200 million dollars loss in a year. Also, Indian citizens purchase Chinese phones for over 1.5 lakh crore rupees according to the conservative average. So, the step to ban Chinese smartphones under 12000 rupees will affect the Chinese economy.
Why Indian Government Do It?
Well, the main reason is to raise the business of Indian smartphone manufacturing companies like Micromax, LAVA, and others. Due to budget-friendly prices and lots of features, smartphones from Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo are so popular. And, the smartphones from Micromax and LAVA can’t compete with them at all. Here, you might think that government should help these Indian companies to grow, instead of taking such a step, right?

Well, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and other Chinese companies have started to sell their smartphones at very low prices with good features. And, offering a good service, they capture the market and the trust of the people. So, until these smartphones are unavailable or sold at a higher price, people won’t choose the smartphones of Micromax and LAVA. So, this step may help here.
However, this decision is not final yet. All the news is based on the reports, and no one says that budget-friendly smartphones will not be available anymore. According to the reports, if the Government of India ban Chinese smartphones under 12000 rupees, it would be an effective step towards the decrement of the Chinese economy.
Because smartphones become a necessity for everyone in today’s life, you can do everything with a smartphone. The Deloitte Study says, India will have to achieve 1 billion smartphone users by 2026. Now, I want to ask you, what is your opinion on the implementation of this step? Is it right to do or government should find other ways? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
